Joe celebrates his birthday in style

Joe Stafford celebrated his birthday weekend in the perfect way possible.
He led the team out at Percy Road and guided the side to a 30-0 win over Pocklington who remain rooted to the bottom of the league still looking for their first point and first try.
And to top it all, he managed to get his name on the scoresheet at a crucial time in the game that helped secure the bonus-point win to lift them top of Northern Premier Division.
“The boys did really well and the forwards showed up,” Stafford said.
“They were a stuffy side but our class showed in the end.
“To come away with the bonus point in those conditions is satisfying, especially on my birthday weekend. I’m getting a bit too old for this.
“Credit to Pocklington they stuck it to us, they threw everything at us but defensively we shut up shop.
“It was a great effort from Mike Dias and Paul Hamber.
“We’re not getting carried away and we’ll see where we are at after the next three games.
“Preston came down from the league above and will be looking to go straight back up and we’ll give it our best.
“My try was just support line.
“As Gary always says, run the support, let the faster guys do their job and we’ll pop up with a try.”
