After a summer of being flogged by condition Callum Donohue, the players get to return to playing in their first pre-season friendly at home to Hullensians (2pm).
Coach Gary Pearce takes his players to the Isle of Man the following weekend for another friendly against Douglas RUFC.
Like any coach at this stage of the season, Pearce is keen to get playing time for as many of his players as possible and he wants to see partnerships develop against Hullensians.
“The lads are looking forward to their first hit out on Saturday,” Pearce said.
“They’ve been training really hard with a lot of tough sessions and running up hills.
“Bit you can’t beat playing games and it’ll be good to get all the players out on the park and give the some game time against Hullensians.
“It will be good for the new players and it might take them a bit of time but they seem to be settling in really well.
“We need a bit of contact.
“You can train as much as you like, but nothing beating playing games.
“That’s what excites players who can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“We’re four weeks away from our first league game at home to Rossendale which is what we are all aiming for and is within touching distance.
“Training has been aggressive with places up for grabs and that’s what I want as a coach.
“We start with a blank page and we’ll see what happens.”
