After an injury hit season, Rupert Kay is determined to put those disappointments behind him and help Hull achieve promotion in their 25th Anniversary season.
Shoulder surgery delayed the start of Kay’s season 11 months ago, and by his own admission, he never managed to get 100 per cent fit when he returned to playing.
Pre-season training is the part of sport most players hate, but that’s not the case with Kay has been working out more than just on the training ground and he knows how close the season is before they start their season at home to Rossendale on September 2.
“Four weekends away and then the rugby season is here,” Kay said.
“That’s roughly 12 sessions, that’s all!
“Personally it can’t come quick enough.
“Last session was extremely disappointing for me, as I started the season with shoulder surgery and then just struggled with injuries throughout that season.
“So I’m just excited to put that all behind me and just play, get lots of game time and give something back to the club and show the supporters how good I can be.
“Rossendale at home is a massive game for us.
“It is a chance to send a statement to all the other teams in the league and will allow us to correct our wrongs of five months ago when we lost to them at their place in a very important game for us.
“My personal goals as cheesy as it sounds is just help the team as much as I can and help them get promotion.
“If I can help the team go up, that’s good enough for me.”
