New signing Lancaster aims for the top after swapping league for union

Hull RUFC have pulled off a major signing ahead of their 25th Anniversary season by securing the services of former Hull FC winger Callum Lancaster.
Lancaster, who has scored nine tries in seven Super League games for the Black and Whites, is looking for a fresh start and rugby union could be just what he’s looking for.
The 20-year-old remains ambitious and aim to play at the top in the 15-man code like he did in league.
“As I’ve played at the top flight in the rugby league I’d say to aim to play in the top flight in rugby union,” Lancaster said.
“I’d be silly to say I’d never return to league, but my focus right now is union.
“I can’t believe the professionalism at this club.
“All the lads switch on when they need to and train really hard and I’m excited for the year ahead.
“I’m really looking forward to it, ready to get my head down and train hard to make it a good year.
“Hopefully we can do something special with it been the club’s 25th anniversary.”
Coach Gary Pearce, a former FC player himself, is delighted to have the try scoring winger on board for what he hopes will be a promotion winning season.
“I’m very excited to have signed him,” Pearce said.
“I’ve done some homework on him and everything tells me he is a quality player.
“He’s come through the ranks at Hull FC to play first team rugby and from his point of view he wants to try rugby union.
“We are a good place to start for him and maybe union will suit his game better, who knows.
“He’s still young and he has a lot of ambition and the world is his oyster.
“It’s a good signing for the club and speaks volumes as to where the club wants to be and he’ll fit in very well.”
