Donohue: Players will be stronger next season

Like any good conditioner, Callum Donohue knows every second counts.
Whether it’s during a game, or in the build up to a game on a Saturday, Donohue’s role cannot be underestimated.
And every second counts between the time one season ends and the next one starts.
The players have been caged by Donohue for the last two weeks since they volunteered to offer up their own time to bulk up for the next campaign.
Reflecting on the season just gone where Hull finished third and reached the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup, Donohue believes the squad needed that little extra power when it mattered most.
“I felt we needed that little bit of power behind us at the back of the season in the games against the bigger opponents,” Donohue said.
“We were one of the fittest sides in the league last season, but sometimes lacked the physicality and mental attitude to embrace the one on one challenges.
“The focus now is on building them up physically and putting some armour on their bodies, and the off-season is the best time to do this.
“It’s only just started, and we are already making the right moves towards next season.
“We will not go backwards during games next year.
“I can’t wait to see the boys go, but for now I’m keeping them caged up in the gym.”
