Ali Heard believes planning for next season has been made that little bit easier after ending the last campaign on a winning note.
It won’t be long before the players are back in league action at the start of September and Heard is keen to start all over again.
Having missed out on promotion, Heard knows what is expected of him and his colleagues if they are to return to National Two North at the third attempt.
“It was a good end to the season for us,” Heard said.
“It’s easier to look forward when you end the season on a high note like we did.
“There is a lot of work to put in if we want to be top of the table and win promotion.”
Heard was one of the main award winners at the end of season presentation night that followed their 26-10 win over Kendal.
The centre, admits he was surprised to hear his name called out after winning back of the season on Saturday night.
With a strong back division around him, he felt the accolade could have gone to any of his colleagues after a campaign that saw the team finish third in National Three North and the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup.
“On a personal note, I’m surprised to have won my award given the quality of players we have in the backs,” Heard said.
“I’m very pleased to have won it especially with the likes of Joey Martin who put shifts in every week and Tomasi Tanumi stepping up every week at fly half which is not his normal position.”
