Match Report: (H) Ilkley W 38-3

Hull started slowly, edged ahead then held out till half time when for ten minutes they were down to fourteen men before pulling away to a resounding victory in the second half.
Ilkley started well but after fifteen minutes of arm wrestling it was Hull who scored first after a powerful break and astute off load by second row Stuart Nell saw Hull’s number eight Joe Stafford romp over for the opening try converted by Tomasi Tanumi.Hull continued to press but the Ilkley defence held out and when Stuart Nell (high tackle) and Joe Stafford (not retiring) were yellow carded within two minutes of each other at the half hour mark ,Hull’s defence held out well, apart from a Chris Ramsay penalty for Ilkley and were good value for their 7-3 half time lead.
The second period started much the same as the first had ended until Hull were restored to a full complement.
Once that had been achieved Hull were securely in the driving seat from the moment they scored their second try after fifty seven minutes after a great Joe Stafford break had opened up the visitors defence allowing Hull to retain possession and put Lee Birch in at the corner. Tomasi Tanumi’s conversion increasing Hull’s confidence.
A further try was delayed by a lengthy I jury stoppage but immediately on the restart Hull relieved pressure from their own 22 metre area with a great break from scrum half Harvey Harding which led to Stuart Nell rounding off good forward work as he plunged over after sixty four minutes with Tomasi Tanumi adding the conversion.
With Ilkley now visibly tiring Nell was on hand in the seventy fourth minute to add a try converted by Tanumi. In the final moments of the game Hull ‘s prop Mike Jobling raced thirty yards to score in the right hand corner before Joe Stafford rounded off a good handling move with a further unconverted try to ensure a maximum points for Hull.
